DOWNERS GROVE, IL — District 58 teachers will get an increase in their base salary, along with the possibility of incremental increases under a new contract approved unanimously by the Downers Grove Grade School District 58 Board of Education.
The agreement with Downers Grove Elementary Education Association (DGEEA) will be effective for three years, starting in Aug. 2024. The previous four-year contract had been approved in 2018 and was extended by two years in 2022.
“I’m very proud of the contract we’ve negotiated and believe it is both a fair and generous offer for our teachers and also protects our taxpayers,” District 58 Board President Darren Hughes said in a statement. “It also meets the parameters of the five-year financial plan and positions the District to continue to add to its fund balances."
Under the new contract, base salaries for teachers will increase over a three-year period by a 2.85 percent average. Some teachers will be eligible for a step increase that averages to 4.5 percent for the first year.
The new contract also makes allowances to prioritize meetings during after school hours, increase retirement incentive and support behavioral needs.
