We help eligible families that can use help with basic essential needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. In doing so, we uphold our traditional Iñupiat values of love and respect for one another, compassion, and sharing. Eligibility for BIA Financial Assistance Service Programs is a secondary or residual resource and must not be used to supplement or supplant other programs.
The goal of General Assistance is to increase self-sufficiency where program participants communicate with ASNA staff to develop an Individual Self-Sufficiency Plan. The approved participant must seek employment and provide evidence of monthly efforts to obtain employment. Failure to seek and accept available local and seasonal employment, or quitting a job without good cause, affects future General Assistance payments for a period of at least 60 days but not more than 90 days. Eligibility is determined according to tribal enrollment, client income and resources, residency, and public assistance.
Please contact ASNA to fully understand the eligibility determination processes.
